Friday 15th July, Cheese Please, Lewes, Sussex
Cheshire the Cheese-Loving Bear is a children’s book written by broadcaster John Henty and illustrated by veteran politicial cartoonist Alex Noel Watson, with an accompanying CD by international audio-book legend, actor Martin Jarvis (Just William, Jeeves and Wooster). At £7.95, all proceeds go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The aim is to raise £5,000 for this print run…
Written in chirpy rhyming style by John and illustrated by Alex, this delightful children’s adventure follows Cheshire’s discovery of the delights of cheese on toast and Welsh Rarebit, on his bus trip. At a 24-hour ‘caf’ run by Taff, a small man with a large moustache, Cheshire sings ‘My Way’ for his supper.
The prestige of an audio recording by Martin Jarvis to accompany the book cannot be overstated, along with the foreword by Gyles Brandreth, founder of the award-winning Teddy Bear Museum.
John and Alex are part way through a series of promotional events – the first was at the Chris Beetles art gallery in London’s West End last month. This one, at the award-winning ‘Cheese Please’ shop in John’s home town of Lewes in Sussex, drew a select band of friends, family and Lewes residents.
Cheshire the Cheese-Loving Bear! is published by Pomegranate Press at £7.95, and can be ordered on-line via www.royalmarsden.org.
Copies can also be ordered from Natasha Cook, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Downs Road, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5PT. Cheques should be made payable to The Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital. RC
